Holidays in Ocho Rios are based in a lively tourist-orientated town on the north coast of Jamaica, 66 miles east of Montego Bay and the airport. Ocho Rios offers plenty of watersports and are popular with scuba divers with other activities on offer including tennis, horse-riding, white water rafting, fishing, mountain biking in the Blue Mountains and swimming with dolphins at Dolphin Cove! Ocho Rios enjoys an exceptionally varied selection of restaurants along with fine hotel dining and excellent seafood. A trip to Ocho Rios would not be complete without sampling some true spicy Jamaican cuisine in one of the smaller local restaurants. Nightlife revolves around hotels with their cabarets, live bands, discos and beach parties. Ocho Rios is also one of Jamaica’s best spots for duty-free shopping, souvenirs and jewellery.

Ocho Rios is well placed for dozens of interesting excursions that include botanical gardens, colonial mansions, Dunn’s River Falls, Fern Gully and the Bob Marley Mausoleum. Other worthwhile excursions include the Green Grotto Caves and a wide variety of boat trips, jeep safaris and airborne tours.

Jamaica Tourism Enhancement Fee

From May 1st 2005 Jamaica has introduced a US$10 "Jamaican tourist entry charge" which will apply to each tourist visiting Jamaica. The tourist entry fee money will be paid directly to the government in an effort to raise funds to maintain Jamaica’s tourist industry and provide capital for tourism enhancement projects. 

 

Weather in Ocho Rios

From July to September Ocho Rios can be hot and humid, with the temperature going above 30°C, although it’s usually made more comfortable by a cooling north-easterly breeze coming off the sea and the sun dipping down behind the mountains in the late afternoon. The most popular time to travel is from December to mid-April when the temperature is a little cooler and there’s less chance of rain. Although rainfall in Ocho Rios is often heavy but over quickly, leaving the town refreshed and the sun shining again. The resort is less crowded in the ‘wet’ season and there may be bargains to be had for those who don’t mind risking the odd shower.
