With white sands and swaying palm trees, the beach is the focus of the area, and with an offshore coral reef stretching for 30km - the longest in the Dominican Republic - conditions in the turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Punta Cana is known as an excellent place for learning to scuba-dive, with shallow dives featuring interesting tunnels, coral formations and shipwrecks. The climate in the Dominican Republic is often described as the “endless summer” and with annual temperatures averaging out at 30C it’s not hard to see why. The cooler winter season runs from late November until April and the temperature will be around 29C with eight hours of sunshine per day. For the rest of the year the temperature in Punta Cana will hit the 30C mark and over. Rainfall is moderate and will appear in short bursts between April and October.
