Luperon is located on the Atlantic North Coast of the Dominican Republic, 75 km away from the international airport and just 50 km from the region's capital, Puerto Plata, The resort has been purpose-built in a large bay and consists of two hotel complexes which occupy the beach front, with the typical Dominican village of Luperon just 3km inland housing the local population, most of whom make their living by fishing in the bay. Luperon is a relatively isolated resort, set in an undeveloped yet beautiful part of the countryside, which slopes down to the beach. A laid-back and friendly resort, Luperon suits visitors who are looking to enjoy the simple charm of the area, and the beauty of the beaches and the scenery found along this part of the coastline.

The beach at Luperon sits in a large bay, and offers a wonderful setting with its' soft white sand and incredible clear waters. The beauty of the beach at Luperon is the fact that it is so sheltered and offers plenty of shade, with numerous palm trees lining the sand. Luperon is a great location for snorkelling, with an abundance of coloured tropical fish found in the bay, and the beach-front hotels can arrange all manner of watersports. Souvenir stalls line the walkway to the beach, and the village, with its colourful wooden homes, offers more gift shops selling local crafts. Basic pensions are available in the village of Luperon, more suited to the independant or budget traveller. The Puerto Blanca Marina, a popular docking spot for vessels of all sizes, sits just outside the town of Luperon, and provides the only safe harbour in the Dominican Republic.

Nightlife in Luperon is based around the hotels, which organise various types of evening entertainment. Most of the restaurants can be found in the hotels, but for a change, the village of Luperon is home to some local restaurants which offer authentic Dominican specialities. Daily buses run to the port city of Puerto Plata, some 50 kms away, and another popular day trip from Luperon is the protected park of La Isabela, site of the first Spanish settlement founded by Christopher Columbus, which lies just 20 kms away. Jeep tours are popular and a fun way to explore the surrounding areas.

Winter is the most popular time to visit Luperon, when the weather is at its coolest but the temperature is still between 28C - 29C each month. The resort sees a minimum of 6 hours of sun each day, and the humidity level is moderate and comfortable, with night time temperatures around 17C - 19C. Being on the Atlantic, the resort benefits from coastal breezes which help to temper the heat. Water temperatures in Luperon range from 27C - 28C during December and November, creating ideal conditions for swimming and water sports, and especially snorkelling. Winters can see periods of heavy rainfall - up to 246mm - which are usually short-lived.
