Bayahibe Things To Do
Beaches
The beach here is one of the island's most popular, and the white sands and swaying palms offer the perfect base for relaxing sunbathing, with many hotels offering an ideal location lining the shore.
Water Sports
For those looking for more energetic pursuits than sunbathing and swimming, Bayahibe is a major water sports centre, with pedalos, kayaking, water-skiing and sailing offered on the beach.
Scuba-Diving
The resort is the best starting point for diving in the Dominican Republic. The spectacular coral reefs that stretch along the south coast boast fantastic conditions, and the crystal-clear waters with their excellent visibility are home to a wealth of dive sites, including wrecks and caves, and an abundance of colourful marine life.
Boat Trips
Essential boat trips from Bayahibe include excursions to Isla Catalina and the secluded Isla Saona by catamaran or speedboat, featuring swimming stops, snorkelling and beach barbeques. There are also whale watching trips that run from January to March.
Sports
The many hotels offer swimming pools and tennis courts, and there are facilities for fishing, golf and horse riding nearby. Mountain bikes can also be rented from the resort.
Tours Inland
Jeep safaris and quad biking tours show visitors the real interior of the island, and offer trips through the National Park, and into the countryside past coconut and sugar plantations, rivers and lakes.
Day Trips
The cliff-top village of Altos de Chavon is close by, and offers a recreation of an Italian village, boasting artists' workshops and an archaeological museum in its medieval centre. Parque National del Este is home to lush forests, mangrove swamps and caves full of pre-Columbian cave drawings, as well as a fascinating range of birdlife. La Romana offers the chance to tour a cigar factory, whilst Santo Domingo is a great venue for shopping and souvenirs.
