Things To Do
Beaches
The focus of any cheap holiday to Santa Lucia is the long sandy beach, which stretches for over 20km and offers the perfect base for quiet sunbathing, swimming and water sports on the north coast of Cuba - a true tropical getaway.
Scuba Diving
With the second longest coral reef in the world positioned offshore, Santa Lucia offers excellent scuba-diving, and there are first-class conditions for the sport, thanks to the gloriously warm seas with good visibility of up to 20m. There are over 35 varied dive sites in and around the reef, featuring caves, tunnels and well-preserved shipwrecks, and a great selection of diverse marine life to view.
Water Sports
Guests on activity holidays looking for some energetic pursuits on the beach can choose from pedalos, windsurfing, kite surfing and snorkelling, and for a fun day out on the water, there are boat trips including catamaran cruises and regular deep-sea fishing trips.
Sports & Leisure
Hotels in the resort offer swimming, tennis, squash, gyms, volleyball and archery, with hiking, mountain biking and horse riding all great ways to get out and explore the picturesque countryside. Walking along the long sandy beach is a major pastime in Santa Lucia, and offers a great opportunity to experience the spectacular sunsets.
Nature
The area is known for its resident flock of Roseate Flamingos, the largest in the Caribbean, which live on the El Real Lake, and frequent the muddy salt flats and lagoons around the resort. They can be seen in their natural habitat, and visitors can embark on tours and boat trips for flamingo viewing. The area is also known for bull sharks, and during the season, dive instructors put on shows hand-feeding the creatures.
Day Trips
The town of Nuevitas and the cays of Sabinal offer a change of scene, and the historic city of Camaguey, makes an interesting day trip. Other attractions include the caves at Sierra de Cubitas and the Cubitas Mountains, for some lush tropical jungle walks.
