Holguin Things To Do
Beaches
The highlight of the region is the lovely long Holguin coastline, with the Costa Verde boasting a scenic base for a beach holiday. There are palm-backed sandy beaches edging warm Caribbean seas, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and water sports, with some of the best spots along the coast being Guardalavaca, Blanca Beach and Playa Pesquero.
Scuba Diving
Warm waters, clear visibility and a long offshore coral reef ensure excellent conditions for scuba-diving, with local schools and centres offer dives and tuition for all levels. There's plenty to see in the waters off Holguin on diving holidays, with divers rewarded with the sight of different types of coral, diverse marine life and tropical fish.
Water Sports
Water sports offered along the coast include jet-skiing, pedalos, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing, and boat trips feature catamaran cruises, speedboat rides, sailboat rental and deep-sea fishing expeditions.
Swimming with Dolphins
The region gives visitors the opportunity to swim with dolphins, at Guardalavaca's scenic Bahia del Naranjo. The small aquarium in the nature park hosts regular dolphin and sea-lion shows, and the park also offers water sports, horse riding, a rodeo and a restaurant.
Sports & Leisure
Hotels in the area offer swimming, tennis, volleyball, fitness centres, water polo, archery and shuffleboard, with regular exercise classes, and dance and Spanish language lessons. Horse riding and mountain biking allow visitors to get out and explore the resort and its surrounding areas.
Nature Lovers
Nature-lovers have plenty to discover whilst on a cheap holiday in Holguin, with a host of national parks and lush countryside to visit. Walking, hiking and biking enable visitors to get up close to nature, and immerse themselves in the charm and beauty of the surroundings, whilst viewing local flora and fauna. Popular attractions include Saetia Key and La Mensure National Park.
History & Culture
Sights in Holguin include the national monument, Museo Provincial, The Hill of the Cross with its spectacular views, the Museo Indocubano in Banes, and the archaeological site of Arawakan Indian village. Tours of local rum and cigar factories offer a classic Cuban experience, and day trips to Havana and Santiago present a slice of colourful city life.
