St James Holidays

Barbados holidays for family fun and water-sports
St James is the sophisticated, upmarket Barbadian ‘parish’ on the western coast of the island, overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean, and boasting many excellent hotels - in fact, some of the best for Barbados holidays. St James beach has everything you could hope for in a Caribbean holiday - pure white sand, gently waving palms and warm, clear water. In St James, the pace of life is relaxed and the clientele tend to be chic and well-heeled. This is the part of the island that international celebrities head for. Not surprisingly St James boasts a world class 18-hole golf course, and many upmarket seafood restaurants and cocktail bars.

Day trips to Bridgetown, Oistins and St Lawrence
The majority of the hotels are five star, offering world class cuisine and the highest levels of service, but there are also more basic and budget hotels and apartments in the area. St James is 45 minutes by car from Grantley Adams International airport. The calm, tranquil water on this western side of the island is ideal for water-skiing, jet-skiing, diving and snorkelling. Turtles are a welcome sight for those exploring the shore here on their Barbados holidays. From St James you can take a trip to the island’s capital, Bridgetown, a 20 minute car trip away, or visit famous St Lawrence Gap for some live music and late night entertainment. Another attraction on Barbados, within a half-hour by car from St James, is the busy fishing town of Oistins at the southern point. Here you’ll see local boats unloading their catch, and taste fried flying fish, the national dish of Barbados.

Secure, tasteful apartments and top hotels, ideal for the family
Apartments and hotels in St James are surrounded by plenty of lush garden greenery, swimming pools, well-maintained children’s play areas, and exclusive restaurants. Hotel complexes along the St James coast are secure and well serviced with nearby shops. Most hotels are within a hundred metres of the beach. Many all-inclusive hotels offer free water-sports and sailing, and also run complimentary water taxis, allowing visitors to explore other resorts around the island during their holidays in Barbados.
