Luxury in the Bahamas
Paradise Island holidays make superbly memorable trips. Family holidays or romantic breaks for couples are extremely well catered for in the luxury resorts along the coast of Paradise Island, a tiny island which lies just five miles off the central Bahamas island of New Providence. Paradise Island holidays provide beach relaxation in stunning surroundings, fantastic food, all kinds of sports, and the chance to learn about the rich sea life. Dancing the night away will also feature during your trip. Perhaps the best known holiday resort on Paradise Island is Atlantis. Holidays on Paradise Island also give you the chance to explore the fascinating and historic city of Nassau - the capital of the Bahamas. Nassau International Airport is 16 km (10 miles) west of Nassau.

Visit Paradise Beach
On Paradise Island your holiday won't be complete without spending a day on the remarkable Paradise Beach, with its gleaming white sand and gently swaying palms. Also be sure to visit Snorkeler's Cove and romantic Honeymoon Cove, just off Paradise Island Drive. You reach Paradise Island via a toll bridge from Nassau, or you can catch a ferry. Paradise Island holiday visitors enjoy watching the fishermen land and unload bonefish, snapper and huge conch shells from fishing boats. Paradise Island holidays are incredibly comfortable and relaxing, thanks to beautifully appointed hotels and great service. Along the shores of this sliver of an island you will find friendly bars, casinos, and lively restaurants. Typical Paradise Island tipples are Kalik Beer or Goombay Smashes - a perky rum-based cocktail.

Taste of the Bahamas

While on holiday in Paradise Island, take time to learn about culture of the Bahamas. The Arawak Indians, Spanish invaders, pirates, British Colonialists and West Africans have all shaped the history of Nassau and its tiny neighbouring island. Paradise Island offers plenty to do beyond beach fun. Visit The Cloisters, a 14th Century French monastery that was bought and shipped to the US by William Randolph Hearst in the 1920s and finally assembled on Paradise Island 40 years later. A Bahamas holiday in Paradise Island will give you access to all kinds of watersports and there are great opportunities to explore the remarkable underwater world. In particular, the waters around Athol Island, east of Paradise Island, are filled with wrecks, coral colonies and tropical fish, easily viewed by glass-bottom boat.
