Abaco Things To Do

Beaches
The Abaco Islands are dotted from end to end with stunning, soft white sand beaches; a sure feature of any Abaco holiday. Along with easily accessible beaches on Great and Little Abaco, you can head to the smaller cays to uncover treasures such as Guana Cay’s seven mile long beach where you can enjoy a Caribbean BBQ, secluded Tahiti Beach on Northeastern Cay or Treasure Cay Beach, often ranked among the Caribbean’s top 10. Abaco beaches are invariably uncrowded and relaxed.

Sailing
Abaco is one of the Caribbean’s most popular destinations for sailing holidays with an entire string of beautiful islands to explore amidst a calm, turquoise sea. Plentiful hidden coves and bays make sailing in Abaco a boater’s paradise. You can hire any kind of sail or powerboat from Marsh Harbour, or dock your own in one of the full-service marinas. Make a stop at Man-O-War Cay to see Abaco’s primary boat builders at work.

Water activities
The clear, warm ocean surrounding Abaco is superb for snorkeling and diving as well as sailing. With several underwater areas around the islands protected as national parks there is an excellent range of carefully monitored diving sites and a wonderful diversity of tropical sea-life. Explore reefs, caves and wrecks dotted all around Abaco with many options for professional dive instruction. Walker’s Cay is a favourite with divers who come from all over the world to experience the regular gathering of up to 150 sharks.

Island exploration
Marsh Harbour, on Great Abaco Island, is the largest town on the Abaco Islands with lively entertainment and a distinctly Bahamian feel. Enjoy the stunning shoreline and live music. Other towns to explore on your Abaco holiday include Treasure Cay and Coopers Town, both exhibiting truly individual Caribbean charm, while the red and white striped lighthouse in Hope Town is a favourite photo stop for visitors. The out islands can all be reached by ferry from Great Abaco.

Nature and wildlife
Abaco has a unique range of wildlife and habitats to explore including four national parks. The Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park encompasses several barrier islands and coral reefs protecting wildlife such as eagle rays and sea turtles. Abaco National Park and Black Sound Cay National Reserve are likewise a haven for endangered birds such as the Bahama parrot. A visit to the Abaco Wild Horse Preserve allows visitors to see rare Abaco Barb horses in their natural habitat.

Golf
The Abaco Islands offer some of the best golfing in the Bahamas in a truly tropical setting. Treasure Cay Golf Club and Abaco Club on Winding Bay are both ideally situated, championship-designed golf courses.
