A holiday in Druif Beach is one of the world’s truly romantic destinations. Couples choose it for weddings and honeymoons. Snorkelers and divers can enter another world where the many shipwrecks attract all kinds of marine life. Pirate bars and pirate cruises provide a reminder that Aruba was once at the heart of the Spanish Main. Today however, visitors can relax and enjoy a resort of low-rise hotels with landscaped gardens and swimming pools, spas and gyms. Daytime activities could include golf or deep sea fishing, while there are plenty of nightclubs and casinos for those looking for excitement after dark, as well as a variety of restaurants. As you would expect, the seafood, especially lobster, red snapper and shrimp, is particularly good.

The temperature here hardly varies from month to month, what little rain falls tends to be from September to early December, and Aruba is outside the hurricane zone, so visitors can enjoy the Caribbean sun here almost any time. The warm, shallow water here, and at nearby Palm Beach and Eagle Beach, is ideal for swimming and relaxing, but a short trip to the other side of the island will reveal a more rugged coast, with beaches such as Dos Playa, which experienced surfers would enjoy. Much of this coast, as well as Aruba’s interior, is incorporated in the Arikok National Park, where explorers can see colourful flowers, exotic cacti, animals and lizards, Dutch settlements, ancient cave systems, plantation houses and gold mines.
