Caribbean Weather
The Caribbean islands lie within the tropics, and despite the vast region over which the different islands are situated, the climate and conditions for all of them are extremely similar. Attracting tourists from all over the world, the best time to visit is during the winter, when the islands boast warm and sunny days, and there is little rainfall, apart from the occasional shower in late afternoon or evening.
The Caribbean sees a minimal temperature variation from season to season, due to the steady northeastern trade winds that hit the islands, with the average temperatures ranging from 24C between January and February, and 29C in July and August. A winter holiday in the Caribbean sees pleasant temperatures and dry sunny days, with excessively high temperatures and humidity cooled by coastal breezes. Summers are notoriously hot and wet, with hurricane season running from June to November, with most occurring during the month of September. Temperatures in the summer can reach up to 32C on the islands of Jamaica and Trinidad.
The rainy season begins in May, with the Caribbean still enjoying 9-10 hours of sunshine per day during this time. Rainfall varies depending on the island, with places like Costa Rica and Honduras receiving the most, and Bonaire and the British Virgin Islands the least. October sees the end of the rainy season, with temperatures staying at 27-28C and the region receiving 8-9 hours of sunshine per day.
