Sal Holidays
Popular Cape Verde holiday island
Sal holidays are based on the most popular and well-established of the Cape Verde Islands, and offer a wide choice of facilities, activities and accommodation. Sal holiday accommodation ranges from cosy family pensions to villas and luxury hotels. All-inclusive holidays on Sal are becoming increasingly popular.
Enjoyable music scene
Many Sal holidays centre on the south coast beach of Santa Maria, an easygoing resort with 5 miles of beautiful white sand. Santa Maria is the best-known beach on Sal, and has an enjoyable mix of hotels, cafes, bars, surf shops and local market stalls. There are colourful Portuguese colonial houses, cobbled streets and a wide range of restaurants offering tasty, economical local cuisine. Sal holiday nightlife is an enjoyably cosmopolitan mix of relaxed restaurants, live music, bars and discos. Bars and restaurants can also be found at up-and-coming Espargos and the port of Palmeira. For the moment, Sal holidays probably offer the liveliest nightlife of any of the Cape Verde Islands.
Superb Cape Verde beaches
Outstanding beaches with soft white sand and gorgeously clear water ensure Sal holidays are popular with beach connoisseurs and watersports fans. Holidays on Sal enjoy a worldwide reputation for windsurfing and kite surfing. Sal is also one of the principal centres for Cape Verde diving holidays. Sal holidays could also include tennis, deep sea fishing and (shortly) golf. All Sal holidays should include a tour of the island and a day trip to the neighbouring island of Boa Vista. Worthwhile Sal holiday excursions include the volcano crater of Pedra da Lume, the Santa Maria salt lake, 4x4 safaris into the weird, flat desert interior and coastal cruises. Regular ferries and flights to other islands make Sal holidays a popular base for Cape Verde Island hopping holidays. Most visitors to Cape Verde will begin and end their holidays in Sal, thanks to the island’s airport.
