The island of Cancun is connected to the mainland by two bridges, with the main tourist district located on a 12 km peninsula which juts out into the Caribbean Sea. A series of pristine beaches lie along the coastline, all with fantastic soft powdery sand, with the best located in the north of Cancun. Although Cancun is an incredibly busy resort, the miles of coastline means it is still possible to find a quiet stretch. The waters facing the open Caribbean Sea are perfect for watersports, snorkelling and fishing, whilst the calmer waters of the vast sheltered lagoon, Laguna Nichupte, create perfect conditions for water-skiing, for example. Facilities on the beach in Cancun are extensive and a huge array of hotels, many right on the front, offer a wide choice of accommodation.
Cancun Holidays– The number one tourist resort in Mexico Cancun has the reputation of a non-stop party town, and the town offers a varied assortment of entertainment, ranging from huge clubs and discos, to quieter piano bars and traditional Mexican bars playing Mariachi music. The choice of restaurants in Cancun is endless, offering everything from fast-food to Yucatan specialities, and the town has developed into a ‘shoppers’ paradise’, with no less than twenty American-style malls and plenty of traditional Mexican markets, selling everything from designer clothing and duty-free perfumes to locally made handicrafts. There are a few small archaeological sites in Cancun, but the best in the Riviera Maya are at least an hour away, including the ancient civilization of Tulum, set in a jungle along the coast, and the most famous Mayan site of all - the pyramid at Chichen Itza.
