Our Greece expert travel writer, Marc Dubin, has done all the research for you on the best beaches and things to do in Kos. Read on for more info on this gorgeous Greek island.
Kos is an enduringly popular, exceptionally fertile Greek island with a range of resort hotels and a balmy climate. Nearly 30 beaches, varying from smallish pebbles to fine sand, stipple the island’s perimeter. For many, the best line the south shore facing Níssyros islet, especially between the airport and Kamári, all accessed by tracks of varying length and steepness – you’ll need a hire car or jeep.
If fly-and-flop isn’t enough for you, Kos has plenty of specialist activities and monumental sites on offer. Castles, Roman ruins and innovative 20th-century architecture are found in abundance, especially in and around the main town.

If you are looking to go on holiday to Greece this year, check out our Hassle Free guide to Crete created by travel expert Marc Dubin. Megalónisos, the “Great Island”, is the Greek nickname for Crete, and it’s big indeed – even with a hire car, you’ll just scratch the surface of the place in the duration of a typical one or two-week holiday.
There’s definitely something for all tastes here: culture buffs will delight in the Turko-Venetian old towns of Haniá and Réthymno, foodies will appreciate how Crete has been at the forefront of nouvelle and “slow” Greek culinary revivals, the most jaded beachcomber will discover many sandy bays, while the more uproariously minded will find ample nightlife in resorts like Mália, Hersónisos and Ágios Nikólaos.
