Piran Things to do
Beaches
Days spent at the beaches at Piran provide a great opportunity to work on your tan, paddle or swim in the Adriatic, or to simply find a pleasant shady spot where you could enjoy a little ‘me’ time turning the pages of that holiday novel you remembered to pack. And if you ever fancy getting ‘beach active’, the beaches at nearby Portoroz are large and lively.
Eating Out
Being a medieval town, Piran is steeped in history, and this is never more authentically captured than at the charming seafood restaurants, cafes and traditional bars there. Grab the chance to sample traditional Slovenian cuisine by enjoying a delicious family meal, or satisfy those hunger pangs with a quick lunchtime snack at one of the friendly cafes. Whatever you’re looking for, there is something at Piran to suit every palate and to satisfy even the biggest appetite.
Saltpans
No holiday to Piran is complete without a visit to the Secovlje Saltpans. The unique method of collecting salt used there is centuries old and a fascinating experience. What’s more, for budding ornithologists, the Secovlje Saltpans are a natural settlement for over 250 types of birds, making a visit to the Saltpans a definite on any birdwatcher’s ‘things to do on holiday’ list.
Day Trips
By basing yourself in Piran you are ideally situated for trips to the nearby cosmopolitan resort of Portoroz where a visit to the thermal health spa there is a must for all the family to enjoy. Numerous sports activities are also available, as well as afternoons spent exploring the lively marina. Other excursions from Piran include bus trips to the capital Ljubljana, to Croatia, and even a wonderful boat trip to Venice – one of the world’s most unique cities.
