Piran Holidays

Coastal culture
Piran is a delightful coastal town, known for its Venetian architecture and excellent beaches, which has remained extremely well-preserved despite the many tourists who visit. Located just 2 hours from Ljubljana, Piran is situated on a peninsula on the west coast of Slovenia, next to the popular and well-equipped resort of Portoroz.

Delightful and well-preserved medieval town
Although Piran is located on the Adriatic Coast, the town retains a distinctly Mediterranean feeling, boasting beautiful Venetian architecture and lovely sunny weather. Small and picturesque, this place is steeped in history, with the medieval town boasting a charming maze of narrow streets and alleyways, an impressive central square - named after the violinist and composer Tartini, who was born here - and a cathedral. With its beaches and shops, as well as churches, a museum and an aquarium, the town offers plenty for tourists to see and do, and the charming centre is a great place to stroll around. You'll find a good choice of accommodation, with many historic hotels in town, and some good seafood restaurants, cafe and bars.

Relax on the Adriatic beaches, or explore the area
Whilst staying in Piran, travel along the coast to the cosmopolitan resort of Portoroz, for its large beaches and lively marina, as well as thermal health spa and numerous sports facilities. Also visit the Secovlje Saltpans, a natural settlement home to over 250 types of birds, to see the centuries-old method of collecting salt. There are regular buses that run all over the area, convenient for exploring the area, with trips into neighbouring Croatia also an option. The lively capital city of Ljubljana is an easy day trip from Piran, and the area also offers boat trips to Venice.

Weather in Piran

The tourist season stretches from May to September, with the average temperature throughout July and August being a lovely 27C. You can expect up to 9 hours of sunshine per day during July. In the slightly cooler months of June and September (i.e. either side of the peak period), the average temperature is an agreeable 24C. Many holidaymakers find this the ideal time to fly out as, as well as enjoying the beach; they can visit fascinating local sites, such as the Secovlje Saltpans, without feeling too hot and bothered!
