Dolenjska Toplice Holidays
Relaxing and reviving
A holiday in Dolenjska Toplice is ideal for anyone who wants to relax and recover from the stresses of modern life. Toplice means spa, and Dolenjska Toplice is the oldest spa town in Slovenia. It is also a perfect place to come back to after enjoying the many sights that the delightful Krka valley has to offer. Dolenjska Toplice holidays would suit anyone who enjoys walking or cycling through countryside that veers from peaceful to spectacular – and those who take these activities seriously may note that the area is the cycling centre of Slovenia and includes both the E6 and E7 European Hiking Trails. The river can also be explored by raft or kayak.
Discover castles, caves and lakes
Slovenia may be a small country but there is plenty to see. Within easy reach of a holiday in Dolenjska Toplice are sights that will stay in the memory forever. The Postojna Caves comprise more than 20km (12 miles) of underground tunnels and grottoes. An electric train takes visitors through some of its beautifully lit natural chambers and halls. Another natural phenomenon is Lake Cerknica, Europe’s largest intermittent lake. Sinkholes and tunnels mean that this 40 sq km lake can dry up rapidly but then reappear in less than a day. Man-made but no less breathtaking is Predjama Castle, built into a cavern in a sheer rock face.
A chance to escape or explore
A holiday in Dolenjska Toplice amongst the rolling hills, fine vineyards and protected forests may seem a million miles away from the pressures of the modern world, yet the town is less than 70km (45 miles) from the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, and the Alpine resorts of Lake Bled and Kranjska Gora could easily be reached in a day. A holiday in Dolenjska Toplice could also be combined with a beach holiday in Portoroz or a resort in neighbouring Croatia.
