Split Things to Do
Beaches
Although not primarily known as a beach resort , you will notice if you are on a holiday in Split, there are numerous pebbly bays and coves that are popular with beach lovers thanks to the high temperatures. Split is also conveniently located to some of Croatia’s most stunning beaches located on the islands of Hvar and Brac. The spectacular jutting Golden Horn Beach on Brac should be visited at least once and is also the place for numerous water sports activities.
Sightseeing
Split holds a wealth of sightseeing attractions and culture lovers will find both the Archaeological Museum and the Gallery of Fine Arts the place to spend a few hours. The Roman ruins of the once majestic city of Solin are worth visiting as is a ferry ride to the island of Solta with its beautiful village and picturesque beaches. A trip to the town of Trogir will reward holidaymakers with amazing architecture and the imposing waterfront Kamerlengo fortress.
Sports
The countryside surrounding Split is perfect for cycling and trekking. Water sports such as diving and windsurfing are available at nearby islands such as Vis, with Brac and Hvar boasting water sports such as jet-skiing, canoeing and boating.
Day Trips
A day trip to the majestic Mount Biokovo from Split will provide amazing natural features such as caves, chasms and botanical gardens. Mount Biokovo Park is also the place to enjoy horseback riding, cycling and paragliding. The views from the top of St George, rising to 1762m above sea level are breathtaking and will include the Makarska Riviera and the Dalmatian Islands. On a clear day the Italian mountains are also visible.
Nightlife
Split is the second large city in Croatia, so the nightlife is be bustling and vibrant. There are numerous restaurants and bars in the town centre and around the beach area. There are also many atmospheric little seafood restaurants by the waterfront to sip some wine and watch the sun set over the Adriatic Sea.
