Postira Things To Do

Postira
Located on the northern coast of the third largest Dalmatian island, Brac, Postira is rich with delightful sandy and pebbly beaches and coves. The town itself is small with a little over a thousand inhabitants occupied mostly farming, fishing and the tourism trade. The settlement rises up the hill from the Adriatic sea offering excellent sea views. Nearby, centuries-old olive groves and pines spread throughout the fertile Mediterranean landscape.

Beaches
Almost the entire coastline near Postira and the island of Brac is considered a beach. Near the harbour of Postira you can find the beaches of Prvija and Zastivanje. A little further to the east you can find a sandy beach, Lovrečina, a pleasant place to spend a day. Windsurfing is a popular pastime in Postira as are other watersports like jet skiing, diving, boating and swimming.

Cuisine
The cultivation of grapes and olives means that Postira can offer visitors unique home-made wines and olive oils as well as fine goats cheese and lamb. As a coastal town a variety of fresh seafood is also on offer, including lobster, shrimps, clams and molluscs, and quality anchovies and other fish.

History and culture
Postira is a village with history, evidenced by early Christian sites such as the ruins of a famous basilica in Lovrecina bay which date from the 5th or 6th century AD. Located in the centre of the village is a church dedicated to St. John the Baptist dating from the 16th century, which contains several paintings from the Venetian Baroque school. Stone masonry was significant in the history of Postira and this shows in its monuments, pavements and buildings. The village has its own festivals and you may be lucky enough to enjoy a “Postira summer”, an opportunity to hear tales of the Mediterranean as it once was.

Travelling
Postira is just 10 kilometres away from the ferry port in the town of Supetar, but despite the easy access still offers the full charms of a small seaside village. Visitors can enjoy walks among the picturesque Mediterranean landscapes with olive groves, ancient palm trees, canyons and isolated rocky coves being just a few of the sights to be seen. Brac airport is also not far, and flights around the island in light aircraft can be booked here.
