Sunny Beach Things to do

Water sports and activities
Set in a wide bay with a Blue Flag beach almost five miles long that slopes gently into warm sea, Sunny Beach offers everything you’d expect from the Black Sea’s largest resort – and more. There are facilities for beginners and experts for sailing, speed-boating, wind-surfing, water-skiing and parasailing, as well as tennis (including coaching, horse riding, volleyball, wall-climbing and archery. For children, there are games and competitions, inflatable’s, go-karts, a water park and plenty more to keep boredom at bay.

Nightlife
For anyone with energy left once the sun has gone down there’s something for all tastes - casinos, nightclubs, folk clubs and floorshows. Diners can choose from traditional Bulgarian, Russian and Chinese restaurants, restaurants with views, even an old sailing ship restaurant.

Organised trips
These include a visit to a traditional restaurant, with tasting and a guide to local food and drink; a campfire outing with a folk show and fire-dancing; and a tour through the local countryside, with a visit to a typical house, an orchard or vineyard, and a village church.

Nessebur
Just south of Sunny Beach is this ancient city, founded over 3,500 years ago. It’s best known for its numerous churches dating back to the 10th-14th centuries. Many still stand amongst a maze of cobbled streets and wooden houses in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Black Sea countryside
The countryside has many unspoiled areas to discover. There are wooded mountain slopes, wide bays, wetlands, rivers and nature reserves such as Kamchia, with its dense tropical-like forest, and Strandzha National Park and the Ropotamo Reserve, where wildlife habitats vary from mountains and forests to swampland and meadows.

Bourgas and Varna
Bourgas, to the south, and Varna, to the north, are busy, cosmopolitan university cities and ports with shops, museums, galleries and well-kept gardens where it’s possible to relax and watch the world go by. The former Royal palace can be found at Euxinograd Park, Varna.

Pomorie
Pomorie is one of four lakes surrounding Bourgas. It supplies much of Bulgaria’s salt and is famous for its mud baths. The sanatorium offers mud cures for all kinds of aches and pains, and provides relief for sufferers of rheumatism, sciatica, lumbago and other ailments. The nearby town has attractive beaches and fine wine cellars.

Istanbul
From Sunny Beach there are one- or two-day excursions to Istanbul, the city of wonders where east and west come together.
