A great excursion from Sunny Beach is a 2 day trip to Istanbul, perhaps including a sightseeing tour of the city. The transfer time to Sunny Beach is approximately 2 hours from Varna airport and 45 minutes from Bourgas airport.

Sunny Beach enjoys a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers that are not too hot. Temperatures rarely go far above 30°C, so the sea can be enjoyed without the scorching heat that is common in some other beach resorts. There tends to be a breeze from the afternoon onwards that helps cool things down and makes sailing and windsurfing pleasurable. The five-mile long beach slopes gently down into a sea that is 21°C to 23°C from July to September. Although the sea is not quite so warm outside these months the air temperature is 21°C in May, 22°C in October and 26°C in June and September, so sun lovers looking to avoid high season crowds and save money should be able to do so.
