Airports in the UK

The largest and most frequently used airports in the UK are in London (Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted and Luton), and Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham. Between these main airports you can get a flight to virtually anywhere in the world. London Heathrow is the busiest airport in the EU and the third busiest airport on earth in terms of passenger traffic. Flights from UK airport can be split into two categories – long and short haul.

Long haul operators such as British Airways, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic generally fly from the London airports and Manchester. Destinations they fly to include Australia, USA, and Asia. There is an increasing trend in long haul flights operating from regional hubs however, such as the flight to New York offered by Continental from Bristol Airport.
Short haul, low-cost airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair tend to offer budget flights from regional airports such as Norwich, Liverpool and Humberside. Many popular European destinations can be reached from these regional hubs, including favourites such as the Canaries, Balearics and Greek Islands.
