Exciting ancient city in northern Morocco
A holiday in Tangiers will give you an eclectic taste of Africa, Europe and Morocco in one mesmerising, hugely memorable hit. Tangiers is ancient, exotic, and always entertaining thanks to the sheer diversity of people and pace of life here. Famous writers and artists from Oscar Wilde to Matisse to Joe Orton have taken holidays in Tangiers. Tangiers Holidays can be beach-based, shopping-focused or simply an excuse for leisurely exploration of the medina - the old town - where snake charmers and hustlers rub shoulders with artists and shopkeepers. Tangiers is also a vibrant seaport situated at the point where Africa almost touches Europe, dividing the Atlantic Ocean from the Med. It is a popular holiday destination for visitors or can be enjoyed as a day trip by ferry from Spain or Gibraltar. Tangiers Airport is 15 km outside the city.

Visit the Kasbah, palaces and fragrant gardens

During your holiday in Tangiers you will be enthralled by this city’s amazing 2,500 year history. Tangiers originated in Greek times and has since been colonized by Byzantines, Arabs, Berbers, Portuguese, Spanish, British and French, among countless others. There is a modern Tangiers which is essentially a Mediterranean resort - home to the majority of holiday accommodation, restaurants and modern shopping facilities. The medina of old Tangiers contains the iconic white-walled Kasbah. Here are Tangiers’ beautiful palaces, including the former Sultan's palace -  the 17th Century Dar el-Makhzen - now a museum, and Sidi Hosni palace. Your Tangiers holiday should also included a visit to the American Legation Museum and a stroll through the Sultan's Garden with its Moroccan fountain and fragrant orange and lemon trees.

Close to excellent beaches and Todra Gorge

During your holiday in Tangiers excursions beyond the city are recommended. You can visit the High Atlas town of Tinerhir to experience rural Morocco, or experience the natural phenomenon of Todra Gorge, which is 300m high and as little as 10m wide at certain points. Tangiers has its own beaches and by travelling a short distance south holiday visitors can enjoy one of Morocco's most popular coastal spots, Essaouira, famed for its outstanding beach and wide, glistening bay.

Weather in Tangiers

Tangiers enjoys a Mediterranean climate with plenty of sun, very little rain in the summer months and a year-round average temperature of 20°C. Winters are generally cool; in fact it can get cold at night with minimum temperatures of 9°C in January and February. For winter sun in Morocco it’s necessary to head south from Agadir, where the temperature is above 20°C all year round. In July and August, however, even Tangiers can still feel a little uncomfortable for those not used to the heat, particularly when exploring the crowded souks. These months, when temperatures near 30°C, are probably best left to those sunseekers who want to relax and enjoy the blue skies.
