Weather in Mombasa - Tropical climate on Kenya's east coast
Mombasa lies on the east coast of Kenya on the Indian Ocean, and experiences a typically tropical climate. Conditions are generally hot and humid, with plenty of sunshine every day, but can be milder than other tropical locations. The average annual temperature in Mombasa is 30C, and although the resort is a year-round destination, the peak season is from December to March.

Temperatures do not vary that dramatically throughout the year in Mombasa, with the hottest months of January to March seeing highs of 32C, and June to August experiencing the coolest weather, when the temperature is an average 28C. The months of November to March see hot humid weather and as much as 9 hours of sunshine each day, making Mombasa a popular winter destination. Rainfall is limited, with January and February receiving just 17mm - 29mm, and the humidity levels can be high during this time. Sea temperatures during the winter also remain high, with the waters of the Indian Ocean reaching 28C - 29C.

Summers see the coolest weather, with around 7 - 8 hours of sunshine each day and moderate humidity. Night-time temperatures during the summer hover around 21C. April to June sees the rainy season in Mombasa, with May, the wettest month seeing as much as 275mm of rainfall. Rain comes generally in the form of showers, which can be heavy, but short-lived and usually occur in the afternoons.
