Malindi Things To Do

Malindi boasts miles of pristine coastline, and the dazzling white beaches are the main attraction here, where visitors can relax, sunbathe and swim, whilst more energetic guests can indulge in various water sports.

 

A number of companies take divers out to the stunning blue lagoons and coral gardens of the Marine National Park, which is home to a multitude of colourful fish and marine life, including angelfish and triggerfish. Snorkelling (or goggling as it is called here) is also available and glass-bottomed boats head out along the coast for scenic rides.  

 

Waterskiing, jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, kite surfing are all available in Malindi. Thanks to the huge waves seen here, the resort is one of the best spots on the Kenyan coast for surfing.  

 

A major sport fishing destination, Malindi offers early-morning fishing trips out to sea, where enthusiasts can find species such as marlin, swordfish, yellowfin tuna, barracuda and shark in the waters of the Indian Ocean.

 

There is a golf course in Malindi, and both mountain biking and horse riding can be enjoyed from the resort. 

 

Malindi has a range of entertainment options in its colourful town centre, ranging from traditional African to modern European bars and restaurants, as well as a local casino.

 

A great place for souvenirs are the local markets, selling unique gifts and mementos, such as khanga (the bright coloured fabric worn by the locals), jewellery and beadwork. The Handicraft Cooperative is an interesting place to visit, and shows local craftsmen hard at work, with their handcrafted woodcarvings for sale.

 

The Watamu and Malindi Marine Parks are major attractions, as is the unspoilt Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve, the Gedi ruins - the remains of a 15th-century Swahili town, and the local Crocodile and Snake Farm. Other places to visit include the Vasco da Gama Pillar, the Portuguese Church, the Malindi Falconry and Jumaa Mosque and Palace.
