Bijilo Things To Do

Beaches
Bijilo beaches are unspoilt havens of tranquillity. Long swathes of golden sand fringed with swaying palm trees lapped by the warm Atlantic Ocean. Bijilo beaches are more laid back and relaxed than the busier beaches along the coast such as Kololi, and it is easy to find a secluded strip of sand to stretch out on and relax. This is the perfect place to sunbathe and swim during the day and sit and watch the spectacular sunsets as the evening draws in.

Water Sports
As you would expect from an area blessed with a hot sunny climate there is no shortage of water sports in Bijilo. Holiday makers have over 30 miles of coastline to choose from and water sports available include jet-skiing, paragliding, windsurfing and scuba diving.

Excursions
Nature lovers will be in heaven with the wildlife on offer in and around Bijilo. Abuku Nature Reserve, Baboon Island and Forest Park all offer a variety of sightseeing opportunities including bird watching and spotting the monkeys. Boat trips up the Gambia should be included to spot the crocodiles basking on the river banks. A trip to Banjul will reward holiday makers with a host of museums that will give an insight into Gambia’s heritage and culture. Banjul’s Albert Market is also the place to pick up some African handmade goods.

Restaurants
There are a number of restaurants and cafes available in Bijilo that serve traditional Gambian dishes as well as western food. Hotels will usually provide buffet style meals throughout the day. For a wider selection of dining options head to nearby Kololi for some of the best open air seafood restaurants down by the beach.

Nightlife
Bijilo nightlife is a laid back affair with drinks in the hotel bars watching the spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Those looking for a lively night should head to nearby Kololi and the strip area where the afro-reggae music can be enjoyed in the late night bars and discos.
