Washington Weather – A favourable inland location
Washington enjoys a fairly humid climate owing to its subtropical location and considerable distance from the coast. With four very distinct seasons, holidays in Washington will often offer a very different experience depending on what time of year you visit. Spring and autumn in Washington are both mild seasons with relatively low humidity, whilst a winter holiday in Washington will bring consistently cool temperatures and the occasional snowfall, with an average of approximately 16 inches per annum.
Weather In Washington –July and August for the best of summer
Washington summers have a tendency to be hot and humid, with daily temperatures reaching 30C in the peak months of July and August. Of course, with such a high combination of heat and humidity, the summer can often bring frequent thunderstorms. Despite the fact that this area of the United States can be susceptible to tornadoes at this time of year, by the time they reach Washington, they would have usually died down, partly due to the city's inland location.
Washington Weather – Traditionally cold winters
At worst, winter temperatures in Washington can plummet as low as -1C during the months of December to mid-February and it does get particularly cold at night with temperatures dropping to as cold as -4 in January. It also should be noted that Washington does have a history of heavy blizzards which can occur once every 5 years or so. These storms usually affect large areas of the U.S. East Coast, the worst of which can bring unwanted gale force winds, heavy rains, and the occasional snow storm. |
