America’s Favourite Architecture
Washington’s architecture is greatly celebrated and fantastically varied, with buildings and monuments spanning decades of American history. Six of the top 10 buildings in the "America's Favourite Architecture", a report commissioned by the American Institute of Architects, are located in the surrounding areas, including the White House, Washington National Cathedral, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the United States Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The National Mall
The National Mall is a large, open park area in the centre of Washington. This important stretch of land is home to a number of memorials and museums and represents an ideal thing to do in Washington. Attractions include the National Museum of Natural History, the Lincoln Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Albert Einstein Memorial.

The Bill of Rights
Within the National Archives rest literally thousands of documents which remain important to the American people and contribute to the nation’s history. Among others, the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights are the most sacred.

The United States Capitol
The United States Capitol is the United States most familiar landmark. Formed in 1793, it is a branch of the national government which is home to the meeting chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives. This building is one of the most impressive pieces of architecture in the world and remains a monument to the American people and their government.

The White House
For over two hundred years, The White House has perfectly symbolised the US government, its people, and the Office of the President. You can walk the footsteps of many of the White House’s most important guests on a tour, wandering through areas such as the formal State Dining Room and the Diplomatic Room. Public tours are available for groups of 10 or more people and will provide insight into its architecture, furnishings, first families, social events and relations with the press and world leaders.
