Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that they will not operate a service from continental Europe to the United States for another 2 years at least while it awaits the delivery of new planes.
Virgin Holidays will redesign its website in 2008 as part of a scheme aimed to increase the number of online bookings. The firm entrusted to by Virgin Holidays is online behaviour firm Bunnyfoot, the same company that has previously helped Virgin secure a 90% increase in its conversion rate.
Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson is to receive an award in recognition of his achievements throughout his career in the travel industry. The Steve Fossett Innovation Award will be presented to Branson at the TravelCom08 show in Chicago in April.
Virgin Atlantic will be the first commercial airline to use biofuel, with a planned demonstration to take place in February. Virgin Atlantic hopes to demonstrate the benefits of using clean-fuel technology by running a Boeing 747 on a sustainable type of biofuel, with a flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam.
Virgin Atlantic and cabin crew union Unite have agreed a resolution to the recent dispute over pay. Unite has now called off the industrial action planned for the 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th of January 2008 as an agreement was reached which will see the crew get a 4.8% pay increase this year and a guarantee of a rise in line with inflation in 2009.
After a re-design of their website and overhaul of usability six months ago, Virgin Holidays has seen online conversions rise by 25%.
Virgin Atlantic has launched its new upper class wing at London Heathrow which is to open on 2nd November. Virgin claim that the new wing, situated in Heathrow Terminal Three will be “the world’s fastest check-in”.
