Cycling Tours
The most popular way to explore the pretty Umbrian countryside is on two wheels. Bicycle touring will pass through ancient villages, lakes and woodland and on to beautiful towns such as Orvieto and Assisi. Guided cycle tours can involve a single day journey or an extensive two week trip taking in many sites of interest. Much of Umbria is hilly offering wonderfully evocative views for the energetic cyclist.

Wine Tasting
Known for the quality of its red wines, Umbria is home to several vineyards and wine producers who offer wine tasting tours during summer months. Sample delicious wines such as the renowned Orvieto Classico and Montefalco and during September the annual wine harvest is celebrated with local village festivals.

Water Sports
Being a landlocked region is no barrier to enjoying water sports in Umbria and a wide range of water based pursuits can be practised. The main centres are at Lake Trasimeno and on the River Tiber with windsurfing, kayaking and waterskiing all available or for the more adventurous try adrenaline fuelled white water rafting. Fishing is possible on the lakes and rivers of the region and is a relaxing and very popular pastime in Umbria.

Historical Sites and Roman Ruins
Situated midway between the historic cities of Florence and Rome, Umbria possesses its own fine examples of Roman and medievel architecture. Discover Roman forts and abbeys in Spoleto and Orvieto or visit the well preserved church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Perhaps the most famous site of interest is the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi which houses the tomb of Italy's patron saint and some of Europe's finest frescoes. This is one of the most important cultural and religious sites in Italy and receives large numbers of visitors every year.

Walking
Take in the beauty of the rolling hillsides and pretty villages at a gentle pace on an organised walking tour of the region. Visit Roman ruins, mountain valleys and olive groves and stop off at bustling town piazzas for lunch and sightseeing.
