HATTA, the association of Greek travel agents' have reassured UK agents over the impact of the forest fires which have swept the country, insisting that it is business as usual for tourists.
ABTA has reported that a HATTA statement confirmed "all national roads are fully accessible, all archaeological sites and museums are open to visitors, and hotels and resorts are not affected and are operating as usual".
At least 63 people were killed in the fires over the weekend, believed to have been started by arsonists. Some arrests have already been made.
The blaze is said to be raging on several fronts on the Halkidiki peninsula, south of Thessaloniki, whilst the Peloponnese area in the southern part of mainland Greece has been worse affected, as well as the surrounding area of Athens and the nearby island of Evvia.
Fire fighters had admitted struggling to control the fires which have grown unpredictable and at risk of flaring up again because of windy conditions, although many have now been brought under control.
The UK Foreign Office has released a phone number for anyone concerned for relatives: 020 7008 1500.
