Following the UK’s wettest summer on record, Travel Republic, which was launched in 2003, has reported high demand for Christmas holiday bookings with a 240% rise year on year.
Travel Republic have confirmed that the majority of their bookings are to destinations that should guarantee a winter sun holiday, with holidays in Tenerife and the other Canaries and Sharm el Sheikh proving most popular. Travel Republic report that other resorts proving popular for Christmas holidays include Marrakech, Benidorm, the Costa del Sol, the Algarve and Madeira.
Travel Republic Managing Director Paul Furner said: "The combination of the terrible summer and the prospect of the clocks changing this weekend have prompted a surge in bookings for Christmas holidays to the sun…with such competitive deals in the market and winter due to really bite at any moment, I would expect the trend to gather even more momentum in the coming weeks.”
Travel Republic was also recently included within a top list of websites providing third-party bookings for travel services by Hitwise, the industry search analysts. Travel Republic who are set to enjoy sales of over £200 million in the current financial year, found themselves higher placed than rivals ebookers, Opodo, MyTravel UK, Airline Network and Virgin Holidays.
