Thomson Holidays is a division of TUI UK Ltd which is part of TUI AG. Thomson Holidays was formed as part of the Thomson Travel Group in 1965 following the acquisition of Britannia Airways and now has over 40 years of travel experience with access to over 65,000 hotels, apartments and villas in over 100 destinations. Thomson Holiday’s sister company is Thomsonfly, the UK’s third largest airline. Thomsonfly, formerly Britannia Airways was formed in 1962 and is based at London Luton Airport. Thomsonfly flights depart from 20 UK airports to over 80 destinations around the world. The Thomson brand also includes several Specialist holidays, including Simply Travel, Headwater Holidays, Crystal Holidays, Thomson Ski and Snowboarding, Thomson Lakes and Mountains, and Jetsave.

TUI UK Ltd previously owned Lunn Poly the UK's leading leisure travel retailer which had over 750 retail stores including the award winning flagship Lunn Poly Superstore. Lunn Poly was however, re-branded as Thomson Holidays in 2004. Thomson holidays also sell through Thomson Direct, Portland Direct, Founders Club and Lunn Poly Direct.

TUI Travel PLC - TUI AG merger with First Choice Holidays
In March 2007 a merger was announced between Thomson's parent company TUI AG and First Choice Holidays PLC to form a new company, TUI Travel PLC. TUI AG owns 51% of the company.
The two travel industry giants confirmed that savings of around £100 million a year would be generated from the link-up and create anticipated revenue for TUI Travel of more than £12 billion a year. In a joint statement, TUI Travel and First Choice admitted the reason behind the proposed merger is a change in travel tastes as consumers demand flexibility and choice, seek new life experiences and look to access travel content through a number of points of sale, most notably the internet.
