Thomas Cook has been around since 1841 and could be thought of as the most well known name in the holiday travel industry, certainly renowned for the change in theory of the modern package holiday. Thomas Cook and his only son John Mason formed Thomas Cook & Son, operating from Fleet Street in London. They have developed Thomas Cook Airlines into the second largest holiday airline in the UK today. Thomas Cook offer around a thousand destinations at home and world wide.

Thomas Cook holidays - Merged with MyTravel
Thomas Cook AG was the parent company of Thomas Cook until 12th February 2007 when Thomas Cook AG announced that it completed a merger with MyTravel Group PLC. The new combined company is now known as Thomas Cook Group plc. It has been reported that this new international retail and tourism group will meet forecasted sales of €21 billion. In July 2007, the European commission announced approval for German Thomas Cook's prospective German owner KarstadtQuelle to acquire the 50% of the travel group it did not already own from Lufthansa.
