easyjet flightsEasyJet this week celebrated 10 years offering flights from Stansted airport. The cheap flight provider’s inaugural flight from London’s third largest airport took off almost exactly 10 years ago, on May 21st 1998 under the brand name 'Go', which then merged with easyJet in August 2002, creating one of Europe's largest low-cost airlines.

Stansted airport has since become one of easyJet’s more successful hubs and can count 14 permanent aircraft and 522 members of staff stationed at the airport. Since the first flight in 1998, easyJet flights have carried more than 39 million passengers from Stansted to destinations throughout the UK and rest of Europe.

EasyJet UK general manager, David Osborne was declared himself pleased with the substantial progress: “The way we travel has dramatically changed over the last 10 years. Now, more people than ever before have the opportunity to fly thanks to our affordable fares to key destinations across the UK and Europe. I am proud that easyJet has played such a pivotal role in uniting Europe and enhancing people’s lives as well as generating a huge economic benefit to the local community.”

Huge demand from passengers has been the catalyst for 10 years of growth for easyJet, expansion which continues even today, as the airline announced a new route with flights to Nantes from London Gatwick as part of its celebrations.
