Taormina Holidays
Taormina Holidays - Luxury resort steeped in history
Taormina is a thriving, world famous holiday resort built around a picturesque bay, on the north-east coast of Sicily. The historic seaside town is particularly busy during June, July and August, so it’s essential to book accommodation in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment. Due to Sicily’s warm, sunny climate however, visiting Taormina in spring or autumn is still rewarding as there is plenty to see here, and swimming in the sea is possible well beyond the height of summer. Taormina is famous for its ancient Teatro Greco - the remains of a classical theatre which was originated by the Greeks, but reconstructed by the Romans in the first century A.D. for gladiatorial contests. There are further Roman remains to visit around the town, as well as mediaeval buildings and smart shops along the Corso. The town’s centre point is the Piazza IX Aprile, featuring a fine restored 12th Century clock tower.
