TUI Travel has laid out plans to preserve and restore a recently purchased plot of land in Tuscany. The development is TUI’s biggest ever project and the largest seen in the area. The site, known as Tenuta di Castelfalfi, is situated right in the heart of the Tuscany region, located between Florence, Siena and Pisa in the community of Montaione. 11 square kilometres in size, the resort is home to several old buildings, a medieval castle, a hotel and an 18-hole golf course.
Dr Michael Frenzel, TUI AG chief said: "This project is a good example of our growth strategy in the hotel sector.”
The aim is not only to expand tourism in the area but also to preserve and restore. Algricultural traditions will be preserved and the existing village is set to undergo a restoration with a spa area, restaurants and boutiques added. There are also plans afoot to build three new hotels, a Robinson club, a Dorfhotel and an Iberhotel, as well as new villas and apartments.
