Summer sun holidays are very popular with the British holidaymaker and have been for many years. Many families wait all year for their holiday to come round only to ruin their holiday experience by getting sun burnt. We have compiled a list of things to do to make sure you can make the most of the summer sun :
1. Sunburn - invest in sensible sun protection to help protect against painfull sunburn. This will also guard against potentially harmful/cancer causing UV radiation & premature ageing.
2. Clothing - children should wear sensible hats that cover & protect their necks, faces & head. During the midday sun cover the torso of children leaving only their face, arms and legs exposed. This can greatly reduce the risk of sunburn and damage.
3. Seek Shade - during the intense summer sun between 11am - 3pm it is a good idea to always be near shade where you can relax and recharge. If out on the beach, buy a shade tent/umbrella or alternatively choose a suitably sheltered spot.
4. Sunscreen - children should wear a minimum of factor 15 for the summer months. Babies over 6 months should wear sun protection factor 25. Babies under 6 months should never be exposed to the sun for prolonged period.
5. Water Water Water - drinking water & rehydrating is the key to keeping cool in the summer sun. You should drink even when you are not thirsty, if you wait until you are, you have waited too long. Try to drink 2 - 4 glassses of water per hour.
Follow the advice above for a care free, sunburn free holiday in the summer sun with your family.
