Beaches
The coastline along St James is often referred to as the Platinum Coast due to the multitude of beautiful beaches. You can take your pick from any of the beaches such as Pratts Rock, Sandy Bay and Discovery Bay. All have fine white sands, palm trees and tranquil waters that are ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving.
 
Diving
Dive enthusiasts will love St James and there are a number of excellent diving schools on Barbados. Diving in St James includes over 200 sunken wrecks at Carlisle Bay. There are also numerous coral reefs and underwater caves to explore. The change to participate in midnight dives should definitely not be missed.
 
Sports
Sports lovers are well catered for in St James and the range of sports in Barbados is endless. Cricket, golf, horse riding, hill walking and tennis are just a small selection of the sports available. The more adventurous can try paragliding and parasailing and there are also kayaks that can be hired by the hour or day.
 
Nightlife
Once the evening draws in the bars and clubs become the social focus of St James. Try the beach parties with calypso and reggae music or go for some live bands in the local bars. Night clubs in this area are numerous and many are open until the small hours. The nightlife at the bustling St Lawrence Gap should not be missed if you fancy live jazz and street parties with karaoke.
 
Dining Out
As you would expect from an island the seafood in St James is second to none. The freshest lobster and fish can be found in the restaurants of St James or nearby Bridgetown. You can also find some of Barbados’s finest restaurants serving a wide range of international dishes in Bridgetown.
