Sissi – Quiet relaxed beach resort on the north coast of Crete Sissi is on the north coast of Crete, 24 miles east of Heraklion and the airport and 3 miles east of Malia. This fishing village was once so remote that it could only be reached by boat. Those days have long gone but holidays in Sissi still enjoy a quiet and relaxed resort despite the fact that Sissi is on the popular north coast of Crete and just three miles from the youth party resort of Malia. But Sissi itself is tucked away downhill from the main road and sits quietly amid undulating farmland with rocky mountains in the background. Sissi holidays are centred on a slow-paced resort with a picturesque harbour, a collection of tavernas and bars, a pleasant bay and a couple of beaches. Holidays in Sissi are popular with those wanting an appealing, uncomplicated laid-back destination without travelling too far from Heraklion airport.
Sissi holidays – Simple beaches and modest taverna nights Sissi beach, which is safe for swimming, is divided into two stretches. The bay to the east of the village has a nice sandy beach with modest facilities and there is a small beach near the harbour. Both are attractively set on the rocky coastline. Sissi holiday nightlife is likely to be little more than a pleasant dinner in one of the tavernas on the attractive harbour waterfront or close to the beach. There are also a few cafes and bars but nothing very loud and a world away from the scene at Malia.
Holidays to Sissi – Quiet base close to north coast resorts In the summer there are regular buses to neighbouring resorts. Holidays in Sissi can visit Malia to find a longer beach and an entirely different scene full of bars and nightclubs. Favourite Sissi holiday excursions include the ancient Minoan palaces at Knossos and Malia, the archaeology museum at Heraklion, the island of Spinalonga and the charming Crete villages found on the Lassithi plateau.
