Silverjet To Re-Launch

News  >  Silverjet
Wednesday, 11 June 2008

cheap flightsSilverjet could be set to launch flights from Luton within a matter of weeks once an expected deal is confirmed by regulators. It means the all business class carriers could resume flights to New York and Dubai, less than two weeks after the company were required to suspend all flights following financial problems.

Administrator Begbies Traynor has agreed to sell the airline to Kingplace, a company registered in Ireland and managed by Heritage Cie, a Geneva trust and management group. Kingplace's offer is being made on behalf of undisclosed private clients. The two parties plan to complete the deal by June 13, although the airline's re-launch is subject to Civil Aviation Authority approval, which industry sources believe will only happen should Kingplace put in place at least £20m-£30m of fresh financing.

Heritage chairman Ian Ilsley said: "If negotiations are successful, we expect to take on all existing staff, to honour Silverjet's existing customers' tickets and see Silverjet return to the skies in a matter of weeks."

Silverjet chief executive and founder Lawrence Hunt said: "We have the necessary backing to re-launch Silverjet. We will be working round the clock to launch our New York and Dubai services as quickly as possible."

Further information as to the expected re-launch date is to be announced soon.
