Silverjet, the low cost business airline is in discussions about a possible takeover. Reports suggest Luton based Silverjet is in talks with two prospective buyer airlines, although details of which are yet to be revealed.
A statement said: "The company is currently in discussions which may or may not lead to an offer for the issued share capital of the company.
"A further announcement will be made when appropriate."
Shares rose by more than 40% after the discussions were confirmed. Silverjet began transatlantic flights in January 2007 with 100 seat Boeing 767’s and added a Luton-Dubai route last year.
The talks come after Silverjet failed to generate its first month of profit in March despite a 23% rise in passenger numbers over the previous month. Despite the demise of long-haul carriers like Maxjet and Oasis, analysts are divided on whether Silverjet can turn a profit anytime soon.
Reports have dismissed rumors that easyJet or British Airways were the airlines involved.
