Silverjet, the business-only airline, is at the centre of speculation linking it with a link-up to a major European carrier in order to help it enter the lucrative London Heathrow - New York route. It is understood that Silverjet has sought advice about selling itself to Deutsche Lufthansa or Air France. Any link-up with a more established airline would enable Silverjet to utilise the lucrative take off and landing slots at Heathrow.
Silverjet is to also begin a second daily return service to New York Newark from London Luton on September 23rd. The airline’s flight schedule will now include a morning and afternoon flight from Luton using a Boeing 767 aircraft. Newark is located in New Jersey, around 15 miles south-west of the city centre.
Silverjet have also reported a load factor increase of 80% in August. Silverjet is a British airline specialising exclusively in the business class ‘luxury’ long-haul air travel sector. Silverjet fly a single aircraft fleet of 767’s in a one class configuration. Initially, Silverjet will operate between London and New York, however they do have plans for other long-haul destinations over the coming years.
