Following the merger of Kayak and Sidestep, it has been announced that Sidestep shall no longer have a UK presence, instead concentrating purely on the US market. The Sidestep website has already started re-directing traffic to Kayak as part of the re-structure.
Both Kayak and Sidestep allow users to search multiple travel sites at once, compare the results, and then buy from whatever travel sites they choose. The recent merger between Kayak and Sidestep was a move intended to combine their strengths and resources, which they hope will mean they can provide a better travel search product.
Kayak has confirmed that both brands will be retained in the US following the merger, as both companies have a significant amount of users. However, any expansion into new territories will be in the name of Kayak. Kayak has sites in France, Germany and Spain, with plans to launch an Italian site in the next few months.
Users re-directed to Kayak are still able to search for flights, hotels and car hire, although UK and European users can now only search for cheap flights and hotel prices in US dollars. Any Sidestep customers with previous accounts set up in their name can now log in at Kayak. Kayak will continue to send fare alerts and weekly deals, for customers who have chosen to receive them.
