The Santorini climate enjoys extended spells of fine dry weather and unbroken sunshine throughout summer with mild and wet winters. The dry season lasts from May to early October which will see very little rainfall and a stable pattern of high summer temperatures and clear blue skies. Winter rain can be heavy at times but several consecutive days of constant rainfall or cloudy conditions are very rare in Santorini. The changeover months between winter and summer bring out the best in the scarce vegetation, temperatures rise and the Santorini weather is at its most pleasant.

Santorini Weather - Unbroken summer sunshine
Summer weather in Santorini is characterised by constant bright sunshine, high temperatures and warm nights. Rainfall is infrequent in summer and when it does occur it is generally heavy isolated downpours with occasional thunder. Several weeks may pass without any rainfall and by the end of summer the already volcanic landscape starts to look scorched and dry. Seas are warm enough for swimming from April until late October and 12 hours of sunshine can be enjoyed daily. The temperature reaches 28c and above during high summer accompanied by pleasant sea breezes.


Weather in Santorini - Comfortable winter climate
Mild and wet best describes the winter climate of Santorini although it receives less rainfall annually than other nearby islands. Temperatures are comfortable throughout winter with chilly weather only experienced on higher ground and during the night. Frost is a rarity and there are relatively few instances of consistent cloudy days. Clear skies and temperatures of 15c and 5 hours of sun are normal in late winter and unbroken fine weather can continue for many days uninterrupted. Santorini weather may see up to 10 days of rain a month in January and February which will often alternate with fine mild and dry weather.
