Samos Town Holidays

Samos Town – Attractive mix of busy port and tourist resort
Samos Town is beautifully situated like an ancient amphitheatre on a hillside at one end of a sheltered horseshoe-shaped bay in the north-east of Samos, 10 miles north of the airport. There are fine views of the Aegean Sea. Samos Town holidays offer a mix of old and new, traditional and sophisticated, and the town makes a good base from which to explore the island. Holidays in Samos Town share a small working port so there are good opportunities for buying local produce like honey and ceramics in the market and mixing with the locals in authentic bars and tavernas. The areas away from the port are quieter, attractive and more authentic with plenty of old Venetian buildings.

Samos Town – Colourful port and atmospheric Old Town
Samos Town holiday social life revolves around the broad long seafront promenade and the bustling harbour area. The main Pythagoras Square in the middle of the waterfront has plenty of shady cafes to enjoy a drink. Traditional cafes and tavernas more popular with the locals are found in the maze of attractive narrow streets that wind steeply up from the harbour and in the area to the east of the port. Holidays in Samos Town can be spent wandering around the sophisticated shops of the New Town and admiring the pastel houses, old mansions and neoclassical buildings of the older part of town known as Ano Vathi. Make sure you visit the exceptional archaeology museum while on holiday in Samos Town.

Samos Town – Beaches, nightlife and excursions
Samos Town beaches are small sheltered stretches of shingle and pebbles; Plaz Gagou beach to the west of the harbour and Kalami beach a short walk to the north of the port. For a sandy beach and good tavernas try the popular Psili Ammos beach a few miles along the coast, which is connected by bus. Samos Town holiday nightlife is probably the busiest on the island with a good selection of bars. For quiet and traditional tavernas try the nearby villages of Palaeokastro and Kamara or the tiny bay at Agia Paraskevi. Samos Town is one of the principal ports of the island and has good ferry and bus connections to the rest of the island.
