Samos Town – Attractive mix of busy port and tourist resort
Samos Town is beautifully situated like an ancient amphitheatre on a hillside at one end of a sheltered horseshoe-shaped bay in the north-east of Samos, 10 miles north of the airport. Traditional cafes and tavernas more popular with the locals are found in the maze of attractive narrow streets that wind steeply up from the harbour and in the area to the east of the port. Samos Town – Beaches, nightlife and excursions
Samos Town beaches are small sheltered stretches of shingle and pebbles; Plaz Gagou beach to the west of the harbour and Kalami beach a short walk to the north of the port. For a sandy beach and good tavernas try the popular Psili Ammos beach a few miles along the coast, which is connected by bus. Samos Town holiday nightlife is probably the busiest on the island with a good selection of bars. For quiet and traditional tavernas try the nearby villages of Palaeokastro and Kamara or the tiny bay at Agia Paraskevi. Samos Town is one of the principal ports of the island and has good ferry and bus connections to the rest of the island.
