Sami holidays – An authentic working port and base for Kefalonia
Sami is on the north-east coast of Kefalonia, 16 miles from the capital Argostoli and 18 miles from the airport. Sami is the former capital of Kefalonia and the second most important port on the island. Sami holidays are based in a modern authentic working town on a wide bay with a long tree-lined waterfront, and views across to the island of Ithaca. The island of Ithaca is well worth a visit and is easily reached by ferry. Sami holiday evenings tend to focus on the waterfront promenade and a series of bars, tavernas and restaurants where you will find some of the day’s catch from the fishing boats that fill the harbour with colour and activity. Sami holiday nightlife is largely a case of exploring local bars and tavernas where visitors mix with the local population. Some places open late.
Sami holidays – A string of beaches out of town
Those looking for a Sami holiday beach tend to end up at Antisamos beach, the best in the area, with a long stretch of white pebbles good for swimming and walkable from town. The Dichalia lighthouse is a good place to spot dolphins and Cape Dichalia has good views. Sami has a small pebbly beach. Holidays in Sami can use the town as a base from which to explore the coast between here and Agia Efimia with a selection of sand and shingle beaches and small quieter coves. Boat trips can explore the more isolated coves in the area. Karavomilos beach is 1 mile away. Agia Efimia, 5 miles from Sami, is a small but popular resort at the end of the broad bay and has many more coves and beaches.
Holidays in Sami – Unpretentious base for Kefalonia excursions.
Holidays in Sami can explore many of the sights of the region like the monastery at Agrilion, Drogerati caves, Melissani lake grotto and the lake at Karavomilos. A holiday in Sami should find time to walk or drive up to the ancient site of Sami above the town where there are ruins from Mycenean, Roman and Byzantine times and fine views of the town and the coast. Walkers can get out into the countryside and green hills that surround the town or stroll along the coast. Other favourite Sami holiday excursions include the picturesque resorts of Fiskardo and Assos and boat trips to the islands of Ithaca, Lefkas and Patras.
