Just an hour from Barcelona on the north east coast of Spain, and surrounded by scenic villages, Salou is highly accessible from the UK, with many charter flights frequently landing at Reus airport, and a short transfer time of 20 minutes.

Together with its’ neighbours, La Pineda and Cambrils, this section of the coast boasts a 10km stretch of Blue Flag sandy beaches and small rocky coves. The main beach at Salou is long, wide and clean, shelving gently into the sea providing safe swimming conditions, and offers a wealth of watersports, including fun activities such as banana boat rides and pedalos. Boat trips and pleasure cruises are available from the marina at Salou, and an elegant promenade runs behind the beach, lined with bars and restaurants and plenty of landscaped gardens. Salou is filled with a large number of apartments, with most hotel accommodation being 2 and 3 *, and appealing to the budget market. There are plenty of places to eat in Salou, and the choice of restaurants is huge, serving reasonably priced food such as burgers and pizza, traditional English and Chinese, together with authentic Spanish tapas and gourmet establishments. It is after dark that Salou really wakes up, with a dizzying array of pubs and bars throughout the resort, and lots of places to dance all night.
Salou holidays – Plenty of family attractions including the Universal Port Aventura
One of the biggest attractions in Salou is the Universal Port Aventura, just a few kilometers from the resort. Based on Busch Gardens in Florida, the theme park is a huge draw for visitors, offering 5 different themed areas, ranging from the Mediterranean and the Wild West to Polynesia, Mexico and China. Families are well-catered for in Salou with other attractions including a massive waterpark and a go-karting course. For those in search of a slice of the real Spain, Salou is surrounded by beautiful countryside full of olive trees, almond groves and vineyards, and plenty of traditional villages nearby to visit. Tarragona, just 10 km west of Salou, is a great place for those interested in ancient history, with the old Roman ruins of an amphitheatre and an aqueduct, and home to numerous museums.
