Ryanair To Update Pricing During Three Day Site Closure

Thursday, 07 February 2008

ryanair flightsThe website of Ryanair will go offline for three days in February in order to update all of their prices to display the total cost including taxes and additional charges. The update is mandatory following instruction from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), who are growing increasingly disappointed that their January deadline for the price changes has not been met. This is despite a message on the Ryanair website claiming that “Fares included taxes, fees and charges”.

Ryanair’s delay in confirming to the new trading regulations has angered many within the trade, including many of their competitors, as well as the Association of British Travel Agents. Many of Ryanair’s competitors have displayed all inclusive pricing since May 2007 and despite Ryanair’s claims that technical difficulties had slowed down the update, an OFT spokesman confirmed their frustration, “We are very disappointed Ryanair has not met the agreed date of January 31st for changing its website”.

Ryanair has now confirmed the website changes will be made as soon as possible, causing them to shut down their booking engine for the three day period: “Our booking site will shut down from February 16th to 11:59pm on February 18th.”

Customers will still be able to access cheap flights information and details from Ryanair’s website but no one will be able to book. Also, those who have already purchased will not be able to make changes to their existing bookings and Ryanair has confirmed no additional staff will be available to deal with problems arising from the shutdown.

As Europe's largest low-cost carrier and one of the world's most successful airlines, Ryanair flights operate 516 routes across 26 countries from 23 bases.
