After having many of its own adverts banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the past, Ryanair have now successfully appealed to have some of easyJet’s adverts removed for misleading the public. Adverts that easyJet used in an online and press campaign, have been banned by the ASA following a series of complaints.
The easyJet ads in question consisted of four Internet banner ads and a press ad promoting a range of cheap flights throughout the summers. EasyJet’s claims that customers would receive a refund doubling the difference in price if they could find a better deal elsewhere have been thrown out by the ASA who claim that there were too many restrictions around easyJet's offer.
Ryanair argued that easyJet’s offer was misleading as any comparisons could only be made with rival flights from the same departure and destination airports and within one hour of easyJet's own scheduled services. In its response, the ASA agreed with Ryanair stating that the "double the difference" which was allegedly easy refund to obtain when it in reality "very restricting terms and conditions suggested it was not".
Easyjet has defended its adverts claiming that the terms and conditions were clearly stated on all of their ads.
